Inferior thyroid vein

The inferior thyroid vein (Latin: vena thyroidea inferior) is a blood vessel that arises from the unpaired thyroid plexus (latin: plexus thyroideus impar). It descends and joins the brachiocephalic vein.

The main tributaries of the inferior thyroid vein are:

  • esophageal vein,
  • tracheal vein,
  • inferior laryngeal veins.

The inferior thyroid vein drains blood from the inferior parts of the thyroid gland, larynx, trachea, and esophagus.
