Superior intercostal artery

The superior intercostal artery (Latin: arteria intercostalis suprema) is a branch of the costocervical trunk that supplies the upper two intercostal spaces.

The superior intercostal artery passes inferiorly between the pleura and the necks of the first and second ribs. While crossing the neck of the first rib, the artery divides into two posterior intercostal arteries.

The superior intercostal artery with its branches supplies muscles and other tissue in the first two intercostal spaces.
